This Year is the 200 Anniversary of the Humber Lifeboat Station

Then and Now

BUY A PIECE OF HUMBER RNLI’S HISTORY

As part of the celebratory activities, the RNLI is giving supporters the chance to buy a year in the history of Humber lifeboat station.   We have set up dedicated pages on our website where people can select the year they want to buy for a minimum £25. The year can be bought in memory of a loved one, to commemorate a birthday or anniversary or simply to show support for the Humber lifeboat crew.

Some of the most notable years in the station’s history will be reserved for auction at events throughout the year.  Years to be auctioned include several between 1916 and 1943 when one of Humber’s most renowned coxswains, Robert Cross, won seven RNLI gallantry medals and the George Medal. Also being auctioned is 1979, when Humber RNLI Superintendent Coxswain Brian Bevan became the only RNLI lifeboatman to be presented with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for gallantry at the same awards ceremony.

Each year can only be bought by one person, who will receive a certificate with details of the events of that year signed by current Superintendent Coxswain Dave Steenvoorden. The names of all those who buy a year will be included on a commemorative display board at the lifeboat station.

To buy a year in Humber lifeboat station’s history, go to www.rnli.org.uk/humber200 or call 0161 7878779 for more information.
